SELECTED WORK
Writing
I write stories for print and online publications. Currently, I do most of my writing for Tilburg University. My freelance work has been published by de Groene Amsterdammer, de Volkskrant, De Speld, Brandpunt+, Univers and other media. In addition, I have produced stories for organizations such Scholars at Risk and the Foundation for Refugee Students UAF.
Podcast & video
I hosted and produced The Digital Hearing, a podcast by the Digital Legal Lab research collaboration. Speaking to law and technology researchers from across the globe, I delved into topics such as the rise of deepfakes, how to protect kids from growing up shared, the struggle of gig workers against algorithmic injustice and social media fueled riots. Recently, I also made my first no-budget YouTube documentary, The Deepfake Society.
Science communication
I support researchers in sharing their work with the broader public. My role as a science communicator is quite diverse, from writing science stories to developing communication strategies. Although I come from a journalistic background, I practice science communication beyond the written word. I enjoy creating visual digital material for science communication purposes, from creating a call for papers to developing research explainer videos (such as this explainer or this one). Whether it’s through storytelling, strategizing or visual design, my work is all about making science come to life.
